Attestation engagements are similar to audits in that the auditor performs an examination, a review, a compilation or an agreed upon procedures on the subject matter or managements written assertion about the subject matter. Attestation services are usually for financial statements that aren't historical. The standards for attestation are quite similar to those for auditing.
